Effective Strategy + Proven Value = Increased IT Credibility

The role of CIO has become increasingly complex. CIOs regularly cite improving governance, linking IT with business strategies and demonstrating value as their most challenging issues. Effectively addressing these issues can increase credibility for the entire IT organization.

We all know that credibility in the organization is essential. Without it, many business leaders make strategic decisions without critical input from IT. When technology executives are not included in strategic decisions, opportunities to leverage technology to support critical business imperatives are missed. In fact, according to Gartner: “By 2006, IT organizations that fail to map a service strategy to the expectations of their chief stakeholders will cede influence to other IT providers.”However, executives who take a proactive role in developing strategies that prove IT value will go a long way in earning the necessary credibility to maintain their influence.

In this first issue of the IT Governance and Management newsletter, Compuware offers some resources for information technology executives looking to develop strategies and prove value. Key features include an interview with Gartner analyst Matt Light, and analyst reports for finding the “sweet spot” for IT governance, strategy and value, running a strategy self-assessment workshop, overcoming four stumbling blocks of strategy implementations and delivering business value through effective governance.
